CAFÉ & CHOCOLAT
Attention dessert lovers: Belgian waffles, chocolate crepes!!!! I repeat: Belgian waffles, chocolate crepes!!!! You can enjoy them here at Café & Chocolat, a Belgian-style sandwich & pastry shop. Okay, I’ll tell you about the rest of the menu, too. But I’m still thinking of my waffled smothered with homemade strawberry sauce. The crepes are great, too.
The crepes can be a dessert (chocolat, fruit) or a meal. The Flemish Crepes ($9.99) are filled with ham/cheese/asparagus and covered in Hollandaise sauce. The French Country Crepes (grilled chicken/cheese, portabello mushrooms) have a creamy spinach sauce. And the Vegetarian Crepes (provolone/Portobello mushrooms/avocado/asparagus) are covered in Hollandaise. The “Three Crepes Sampler” ($11.99) is for those of us who couldn’t decide between the three options.
I literally stumbled across this awesome little cafe which is tucked in the corner of Village Park Shopping Center on W. Park Row. It’s owned by a lady from Belgium named Suzanne van den Heuvel-Kucera who moved here in 1986. She used to own a bakery and coffee shop in Belgium. Now she’s opened one here.
There’s a full menu for lunch or dinner, or just enjoy a coffee & dessert. Breakfast items are served all-day (eggs benedict, omelets, waffles & crepes). For special occasions or corporate events, this is a good place to remember. There’s a private dining room available that seats up to 20 people. And you can also take home (or to the office) trays of sandwiches/cheeses/fruits/pastries. You can also buy whole pies and cakes.
This is a great place for lunch. You can get a stuffed omelet on the budget lunch menu for $5.99. You can also build-your-own-sandwich from $6.99. The daily special (1/2 sandwich with fruit or soup or salad.
The soups must be popular because a couple of ladies stopped-in to get soup to take home for dinner.
The dine-in and take-out menu features hot sandwich specialties ranging from $7.99 to $8.99, including: Croque Monsieur, Croque Hawaii, Panini Italiano or Texas Style, Grilled Chicken, and Veggie or Tuna Melts. The gourmet salads ($7.99 to $10.99) include: tuna, chicken salad, and veggie, and chef. Toasted wraps ($7.99) include BLT, veggie, chicken salad, tuna salad, and sub.
Go to the restaurants Web site (cafénchocolat.com) to print out a coupon for dinner. Be aware that the Web site doesn’t have the updated list of hours of operation.
What a neat little place. Sort of a little taste of Europe. Great menu…but definitely choose the fruit-covered waffles!!!
